Jiangling Motors Plans European Factory, Ford Demonstrates Need For Brush-Up On “Tax Sheltering 101″

Jiangling Motors, the Chinese auto company and producer of Ford commercial vehicles, has announced plans to construct a production facility in Poland. Already slightly familiar with the terrain, in 2005, Jiangling’s European importation arm, Landwind Motors, introduced the X-Pedition to the European market with disastrous results. The vehicle fared reasonably well until German crash-test results revealed the X-Pedition to be essentially as safe as a can of tuna fish. The X-Pedition was immediately pulled from the market, heavily redesigned, and reintroduced in 2006 at the Paris Auto Show alongside another Landwind/Jiangling offering: the Fashion minivan. For no apparent reason, neither vehicle has yet to be officially released to the consuming public. At this time, we’d like to patiently remind all struggling Detroit auto corporations that, ideally, offshore tax shelters should spend as little time in the headlines as possible…

Although plan specifics are still being discussed with Polish authorities, if given the green light, Jiangling’s plant will make become the first one Chinese origin to be based on European soil. Unrealistically optimistic given their recent escapades, Jiangling/Landwind anticipate the European factory to average a yearly output of some 400,000 cars, placing it squarely above the region’s current leader in output Fiat Auto Poland with 362,000.

2011 Land Rover LRX

Land Rover goes green with its 2011 LRX model. To view the concept, here are the things to consider: A sporty two-door crossover based on the Land Rover four-door LR2 and its 3.2-liter V6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive with Land Rover’s Terrain Response System with an added “eco” mode to optimize powertrain operation for fuel economy. It will be integrated with an Electric Rear Axel Drive (ERAD) that will allow rear-wheel electric-only operation up to 20mph. The 2011 Land Rover LRX is designed with the traditional brand visuals in a sleeker style which features tapered nose, lower roofline, smoother body contours, and an 8.1-inch reduction in overall height compared to the LR2. Yet, the name LRX won’t probably be practical instead, it will be LR4 or LRS. Regardless of the future name argument, the eco-friendly Rover will still look jazzy and sleek even without the X.
